Every year the Missouri State Peace Officers Association presents two awards: Police Officers of the Year and Citizen of the Year. This year on July 26 at the Lake of the Ozarks, Realty Executives Premiere owner Chuck Maher was presented with the Citizen of the Year Award.
It was in 2014 when Maher got involved in the Eureka Police Officers Support Fund and soon became president.
“[The police] are there for us every day, so we do something to make their lives a little easier or give them a pat on the back and say thank you for what they do for us, because they don’t always get that,” Maher said.
The support fund group was started to show support for the police and give them any additional service they would need.
“Chuck was nominated for citizen of the year for his work within the community, the chamber and with his continued assistance with the Eureka Police Officers Support Fund,” the Eureka Police Department stated in a Facebook post.
Maher said receiving an award is not the reason he does what he does, but it was nice to be recognized.
“It was exciting,” Maher said. “I’m not a real jump-up person, but it was exciting.”
Maher is also vice president of the Eureka Chamber of Commerce, on the Pacific Chamber Board of Directors, Board of Directors for Land of Giants Truck Club and the national advisory board of Realty Executives.
