Total Hair Care in High Ridge is partnering with Fellowship First Baptist Church and New Hope Fellowship Church to hold its fourth annual Back to School event Aug. 5.
From 9 a.m.-5 p.m., school-aged children can come to the salon and get a basic haircut for only $5. In addition, families can go next door to Fellowship First Baptist Church’s lower parking lot on High Ridge Blvd. from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and enjoy free cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, hot dogs and beverages. FBC will also be giving away classroom supplies such as paper towels, tissues, and disinfectant wipes. There will be free activities on site, such as a fire truck, and balloons will be given away courtesy of First Community Credit Union. Also from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Nora Ross, coordinator for this event from New Hope Fellowship on Antire Road, arranged for children to get free backpacks and school supplies donated by the congregation. There will also be free haircuts and free lunch as well as a free yard sale available to get much needed items.
“For a couple of years now, the church and our salon have unknowingly planned the event on the same day,” said hairstylist Melissa Hawkes. “So this year we figured we’d combine our efforts.”
According to worship leader Melissa Seal from FBC, the church handed out these supplies last year drive-thru style, but wanted to intermingle more with area residents this year. That is why they will be set up in the parking lot where people can come get their items.
“Both churches know there is a need for all these items and want to meet that need,” said Seal. “We also want to show the High Ridge community that we love them and the children. This event lets the congregations love on these kids, no strings attached.”
Though anyone can get the items from the churches, only a select number of children can get their haircuts at the salon. It is advised that people make a reservation with one of the seven hairstylists at Total Hair Care by calling 636-677-4001.
